Multimedia Installation. 2020 Photography (105x140cm), video (7’48’’, loop), stool, vegetal elements
La Trinité represents the central dogma of modern society through the eyes of the Exotic Garden of Monaco. Indeed, this garden being a reflection and a symbol of constantly evolving urban life, I replay the imagination of the Christian faith by bringing to light buried images of our construction of the Western world. Thus, La Trinité is an installation which consists of three individual works.
L’Ascension La Genèse du monde La Traversée
Each is based on distinct and equal principles of modern human philosophy.
L’Ascension (video 7’48’’, loop), stool. The device invokes the figure of the Father who guides and uplifts man through technical education in order to attain new knowledge. In the video, construction cranes blend into the landscape of the botanical garden, moving around and embodying the flora on display. The artifice thus becomes natural, the machine takes over. Man rediscovers eternal wisdom.
La Genèse du monde (printed photography 105x140cm) In Christian belief, the Son is the one through whom the Father was able to create the sky, the earth, the material world. The photographic image thus captures a false erected ruin taken against the light in the exotic garden of Monaco. The projected shadow would reflect our destiny, our human condition. Modern man therefore embodies all the fullness of an opaque divinity. The collapse.
La Traversée (vegetal elements, support) Plant elements collected from the garden are carefully arranged on a board echoing scientific discoveries. This rational and pragmatic thought of science is inspired by the figure of the Holy Spirit, a metaphor for the spirit of God and which is represented by natural symbols. Thus, La Traversée would be the path of life, the journey of man in the quest, instrumentalisation and categorization of Nature. Divide and rule.
La Trinité thus re-enacts the Monegasque territory through her "exotic" garden to bring out visions of our existence. The spatial arrangement at different levels creates a form of language in a loop between the works, establishing a heritage that is perpetually built up. La Trinité is therefore a way of telling and rethinking the stories of the history of modern civilization.
La Trinité has been exhibited as part of Jardin en Cours exhibition at the Quai Antoine 1er Showroom in Monaco.
